The difference is the hours
The high-volume team shooters get through a roster in an afternoon. That is a different job. This one is built around a single athlete and finished like a piece of work you would hang.

We plan the piece first
Before the camera comes out we agree on what the finished portrait is — the pose, the light, the scene it will live in. Your athlete is not working through a shot list somebody else wrote.

One athlete, one session
No line of teammates waiting behind them. The session runs as long as it needs to, which is what makes the difference between a photo and a portrait.

Built by hand, frame by frame
Every hero image is cut out, composited onto an art-directed background, graded and retouched individually. That is hours per image, and it is the whole point.

About
I am Brandon Garner. I photograph one athlete at a time, out of North Richland Hills, TX.
I started doing this the way most people do — shooting games, handing over a gallery, moving on. The pictures were fine. None of them ended up on a wall.
So I changed the job. Now every athlete gets a session built around them and one finished piece that took real hours to make: cut out by hand, composited onto a scene we planned together, graded and retouched until it holds up printed large. It is slower and it does not scale, and that is exactly why it looks the way it does.
